The Mission
Horse ReCourse started because we have found a need for assistance to rehome unwanted horses in Mendocino County. Horses are frequently abandoned or neglected because there is no place for them to go if their owners are no longer able to care for them. Horse Care, even minimal, can be expensive to maintain, and out of reach for many people. Quality care for horses requires many resources, including financial stability, education, and access to professional support, such as veterinary and farrier care. It can be challenging for people to meet the needs of horses in their care for a variety of reasons, and it is always the animal that suffers.
Meet the Horses
While Horse ReCourse was formally established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2022, its founder and director Robyn has been rescuing, rehabilitating, and responsibly rehoming horses in Mendocino County for many years.
Meet both our current rescues as well as some of the several horses whose lives have been impacted over the years. Horse ReCourse is looking forward to featuring many more success stories.
Horse ReCourse exists because we all believe in the importance of helping horses find long-term, responsible homes where they can live out their lives in comfort. Through the generosity of our community, we will support as many individual horses and other animals as we can. Our intention is to provide the right care and training so that each one may be placed in an appropriate home, allowing us to continue to provide support to more animals in the future.
What we do for them
And what they do for us
Currently, horses in our care are kept at a lovely facility north of the town of Fort Bragg, in Mendocino county. We pay board on each horse, which includes feed, the infrastructure at the facility, including fencing, shelter, footing, arenas, staff, and everything we need to safely house, feed, and train horses efficiently. Horses receive high-quality care, including blanketing, turnout, supplemental feed and medication, vet and farrier visits, and training.

“As well as being experienced and knowledgeable, Robyn has an incredible sensitivity and true heart connection with horses (and humans!). She wants to teach her students not just how to ride, but how to see what is happening inside their animals, so that the relationship between horse and rider is one of friendship and caring, and is truly collaborative.
